Federico Fusj | Extrema Ratio

z2o Project is pleased to present the solo exhibition of Federico Fusj (Siena, 1967) at its space on Via Baccio Pontelli 16, accompanied by a text by the artist Alfredo Pirri.

 

Federico Fusi’s recent works are offered as objects for contemplation and inquiry. A sculptor from Siena with refined sensitivity, Fusi develops a practice rooted in tradition, yet projecting into the future through a formally innovative, almost visionary, gesture. His sculptures, often made of marbles typical of Tuscany, are not merely plastic objects: they are thinking forms, interpreting and shaping space, time, and above all, language.

 

From this tension between the ancient and the new, between form and meaning, arises the idea of a "science fiction sculpture." A term not to be taken as a genre play, but as a precise poetic declaration. Just as science fiction blends imagination and rationality to depict alternative yet credible worlds, Fusi’s works transport us to a suspended dimension, where matter becomes word and word becomes matter. The sculpture does not represent—it transmits, like a luminous hologram: it speaks to us in a language both archaic and contemporary, dialectal and universal.

 

The works presented here operate on two levels: on one hand, they interpret—in the exegetical and almost religious sense of the term; on the other, they shape, giving visible form to concepts and symbols. As in sacred texts, where every word can be analyzed, Fusi’s art becomes an interpretive gesture, a silent revelation. His sculptures appear light, floating, yet they carry all the weight of marble and thought. They seem manageable objects, but their strength lies precisely in the tension between apparent lightness and their real, physical, and conceptual weight.

 

In the silence of the exhibition space, Federico Fusi’s sculptures not only reveal themselves—they watch us, inviting us to read and be read. It is in this exchange that the deeper meaning of his research comes alive: sculpture as a device of vision, as a solid word permeated by light and time, as an object that questions and reshapes us. An art that reminds us that seeing is an act of faith, and that truly understanding means allowing oneself to be transformed.

z2o Project è lieta di presentare la personale di Federico Fusj (Siena, 1967) nello spazio di via Baccio Pontelli 16, con un testo dell’artista Alfredo Pirri.

 

Le opere recenti di Federico Fusi si offrono come oggetti di contemplazione e di interrogazione. Scultore senese di raffinata sensibilità, Fusi sviluppa una pratica che affonda le radici nella tradizione, ma che si proietta verso il futuro attraverso un gesto formale innovativo, quasi visionario. Le sue sculture, spesso realizzate in marmi tipici della Toscana, non sono semplici oggetti plastici: sono forme pensanti, che interpretano e modellano lo spazio, il tempo e soprattutto il linguaggio.

 

È da questa tensione tra antico e nuovo, tra forma e significato, che nasce l’idea di una "scultura di fantascienza". Un termine che non va inteso come gioco di genere, ma come precisa dichiarazione poetica. Così come la fantascienza unisce immaginazione e razionalità per raccontare mondi alternativi ma credibili, le opere di Fusi ci portano in una dimensione sospesa, dove la materia si fa parola e la parola diventa materia. La scultura non rappresenta, ma trasmette, come un ologramma luminoso: ci parla con un linguaggio arcaico eppure attuale, dialettale e universale.

 

Le opere qui presentate agiscono su un doppio livello: da un lato, interpretano, nel senso esegetico e quasi religioso del termine; dall’altro, plasmano, dando forma visibile a concetti e simboli. Come accade nei testi sacri, dove ogni parola può essere analizzata, così anche l’arte di Fusi si fa gesto interpretativo, rivelazione silenziosa. Le sue sculture appaiono leggere, fluttuanti, ma portano in sé tutta la gravità del marmo e del pensiero. Sembrano oggetti maneggevoli, ma la loro forza sta proprio nella tensione tra l’apparente leggerezza e il loro peso reale, fisico e concettuale.

 

Nel silenzio dello spazio espositivo, le sculture di Federico Fusi non solo si mostrano, ma ci osservano, ci invitano a leggere e a essere letti. È in questo scambio che si attiva il senso profondo della sua ricerca: la scultura come dispositivo di visione, come parola solida che si lascia attraversare dalla luce e dal tempo, come oggetto che ci interroga e ci modella. Un’arte che ci ricorda che guardare è un atto di fede, e che comprendere – davvero – significa lasciarsi trasformare.
