z2o Sara Zanin is pleased to present Distanza, a solo exhibition by the artist Fabrizio Prevedello (Padua, 1972), who has been invited to interact with the spaces in via Alessandro Volta 34.
Distanza brings together ten pieces, including sculptures, drawings and photographs. Marble, concrete, plaster, glass, steel and images permeate the exhibition as ever-changing presences. The sculptures are not fixed, but arranged in successive states, suspended between installation and displacement, permanence and passage. From this threshold, a silent performance is activated, consisting of pauses, supports and transformations.
Ascesa e caduta (364 A, B) originates from the reconfiguration of a steel staircase created by the artist previously. The piece takes inspiration from a message written on a Berlin wall in the 1990s: “Faster, further, higher... but towards where?” The Ponte alle Cervaiole drawings present the technical design of a bridge that was never built to repair an interrupted section of a quarry road. Created to scale and intended for a craftsman, they demonstrate how spatial intuition and constructive instruction can coincide. In both works, a triangular structure is employed, which is stronger than a square in terms of holding capacity and resistance.
The movement is not only about the pieces of work, but also the theme of the route itself. Like a mountain path, it is made up of detours and stops. Some sculptures confront the standard Europallet size: a logistical module and industrial geometry in dialogue with the irregular processes of life.
In Prevedello's works, sculpture is configured as a gesture that intertwines with the landscape in a mutually shaping relationship. The photograph Colore (198), showing an arm clutching a fragment of stone that is rough on one side and worked on the other, embodies intimate and erotic contact with the material.
Distanza becomes part of the urban fabric of Rome, like a mineral interference. In a city made of so much stone, the vitality of marble and its veins re-emerges in the gallery. The ascending lines of future projects and the descending lines of erosion become indistinguishable.

Distanza raccoglie dieci opere tra sculture, disegni e fotografie. Marmo, cemento, gesso, vetro, acciaio e immagine attraversano la mostra come presenze in mutazione. La scultura non si fissa, ma si dispone in stati successivi, sospesi tra l’installazione e lo spostamento, tra permanenza e passaggio. Da questa soglia si attiva una performatività silenziosa, fatta di pause, appoggi e trasformazioni.
Ascesa e caduta (364 A, B) nasce dalla riconfigurazione di una scala in acciaio realizzata in passato dall'artista. L’opera prende spunto da una scritta letta su muro a Berlino negli anni '90: “Più veloce, avanti, più in alto… ma verso dove?”. I disegni della serie Ponte alle Cervaiole presentano il progetto tecnico di un ponte mai costruito, destinato a ricucire un tratto interrotto di una via di cava. Realizzati in scala reale e destinati a un artigiano, dimostrano come intuizione spaziale e istruzione costruttiva possano coincidere. In entrambi i lavori ricorre una struttura triangolare, più forte del quadrato per capacità di tenuta e resistenza.
Il movimento non riguarda solo le opere, ma anche il tema dell'andamento. Come un sentiero montano, il percorso si costruisce per deviazioni e soste. Alcune sculture si confrontano con la misura standard dell’europallet: modulo logistico, geometria industriale, in dialogo con i processi irregolari della vita.
Nelle opere di Prevedello, la scultura si configura come un gesto che si intreccia con il paesaggio, in un rapporto di reciproca modellazione. La fotografia Colore (198), che mostra un braccio che stringe un frammento di pietra — grezzo da un lato, lavorato dall’altro — incarna un contatto intimo ed erotico con la materia.
Distanza s’innesta nel tessuto urbano di Roma come un’interferenza minerale. In una città costruita di tanta pietra, riemerge in galleria la vitalità del marmo e delle sue venature. Si confondono le linee ascendenti dei progetti futuri e quelle discendenti dell'erosione.
