Adelisa Selimbašić (b. 1996) is an Italo-Bosnian artist who lives and works in New York.
In 2021 she graduated from Venice Academy of Fine Arts with a Master in Painting.

Adelisa Selimbašić aims to create a world in which the sense of inadequacy doesnot exist – allowing for an unconventional perception of the body by playing withscenes from everyday life. With the use of the simplicity of the body, Adelisa transmutes the idea of Femininity, focusing her research on human complexities. The photographic format chosen by Adelisa recalls social media platforms, givinga sense of familiarity and false intimacy. The faces appear vague, representingsubjective identities. The sitters maintain attitudes and are transformed intogenerational archetypes. The bodies begin to flow into each other, alluding tometaphors.
Currently, Adelisa's research is focused on the need, attraction, and tension ofphysical touch. The essence of the works is veiled by themes of body positivityand sisterhood. Selimbašić’s approach centers on crafting a tangible, almost tactile presence in her paintings, achieved through the meticulous manipulation of colors inspired by the world around her.
Working with a restrained color palette, she blends pigments directly into the canvas, allowing the hues to interact and evolve organically. These colors are then intensified, pushing them toward a plasticity that challenges traditional representations of the female body. Her extensive use of color stems from a deep, attentive observation of reality, revealing its countless chromatic nuances. On the canvas, she distorts and exaggerates these colors, creating a sense of volume that feels almost palpable.

Her art residencies include: Kates Ferri Project (New York, 2024) Fountainhead Residency (Miami, 2023), Fridman Gallery (Beacon, NY, 2023), Viafarini (Milan, IT, 2021), IFITRY- Centre d’art Contemporain (Essaouira, Morocco, 2022).
