On May 12^th, 2026, z2o Sara Zanin will inaugurate, in the spaces of via Alessandro Volta 34, Rome, Nel tuo affondare, la mia forma, the second solo exhibition of Guglielmo Maggini, curated by Giuseppe Armogida.

The exhibition marks the artist’s first engagement with the architecture of the gallery’s new exhibition space developing a unified project that brings together a new body of works created between 2025 and 2026. Here, matter becomes a site of passage: ceramic and resin intertwine, while new research trajectories emerge through the introduction of glass, already present as a latent tension in the liquidity of his forms.

At the core of the project - which unfolds as an immersion driven by the urgency of contact - are the themes of inheritance and shipwreck, understood not as opposing conditions but as interwoven movements. The artist works with ceramic as a material to be traversed both physically and symbolically, shaping a gesture that carries the measure of an embrace: an embrace directed toward art history and, in particular, toward the twentieth-century ceramic tradition - from Lucio Fontana onward - but also an intimate gesture in which historical memory and personal memory merge without hierarchies.

The result is a free and layered reinterpretation in which the past is never quoted but continuously transformed and set back into circulation. In this sense, the exhibition marks a moment of awareness and maturity in Maggini’s practice: the ceramic medium is examined in its technical and linguistic possibilities through the introduction of maiolica, a pictorial practice that moves through matter, the use of third-firing gold luster, and an increasing attention to the installation dimension.

Sculpture thus opens up to architectural space, becoming environment, rhythm, relation. It is not about holding back what is sinking, but about passing through it: giving form to what remains, and from there, perhaps, beginning again.

Il 12 maggio 2026, negli spazi di via Alessandro Volta 34 a Roma, z2o Sara Zanin inaugura Nel tuo affondare, la mia forma, seconda mostra personale di Guglielmo Maggini, a cura di Giuseppe Armogida.

Per la prima volta Maggini si confronta con l’architettura del nuovo spazio della galleria, costruendo un progetto unitario che accoglie un corpus inedito di lavori realizzati tra il 2025 e il 2026. Qui la materia si fa luogo di transito: ceramica e resina si intrecciano, mentre emergono nuove traiettorie di ricerca attraverso l’introduzione del vetro, già presente come tensione latente nella liquidità delle sue forme.

Al centro del progetto – che si articola come un’immersione, nell’urgenza di un contatto – si collocano i temi dell’eredità e del naufragio, intesi non come condizioni opposte ma come movimenti intrecciati. L’artista lavora sulla ceramica come su una materia da attraversare fisicamente e simbolicamente, dando forma a un gesto che ha la misura dell’abbraccio: un abbraccio rivolto alla storia dell’arte e, in particolare, alla tradizione ceramica del Novecento – da Lucio Fontana in avanti –, ma anche un gesto intimo, in cui memoria storica e memoria personale si fondono senza gerarchie.

Ne deriva una rilettura libera e stratificata, in cui il passato non è mai citato, ma continuamente trasformato e rimesso in circolazione. In questo senso, la mostra segna un momento di consapevolezza e maturità nel percorso di Maggini: il medium ceramico viene interrogato nelle sue possibilità tecniche e linguistiche, attraverso l’introduzione della maiolica, una pratica pittorica che passa attraverso la materia, l’uso del lustro d’oro a terzo fuoco, e una crescente attenzione alla dimensione installativa.

La scultura si apre così allo spazio architettonico, diventando ambiente, ritmo, relazione. Non si tratta di trattenere ciò che affonda, ma di attraversarlo: dare forma a ciò che resta, e da lì, forse, ricominciare.
